Workshop Theme:
Helping IT Practitioners & Their Employers Through Increased Professionalism.
This workshop will review the current status of IT as a profession & describe IEEE Computer Society PAB-IT’s progress in defining the scope of IT and its sub-disciplines, high-lighting issues that need to be resolved in order for our profession to be as highly regarded as other well defined professions such as engineering. IT in this workshop includes Information Systems and Software Engineering.
The perspectives of executives, managers, educators, practitioners, software and hardware designers, developers, evaluators, and users of IT resources across government, industry and academia relative to their views of what constitutes an IT Professional will be sought during this highly interactive workshop.
Our Workshop will offer a unique opportunity to those in attendance, from which we expect to collaborate, to learn and to share our knowledge supporting the establishment of what we all want to be a stronger and better recognized Profession. The work underway by the IEEE Computer Society professional activities representatives examines the efforts of a wide range of organizations to address such topics as a unified Body of Knowledge, accreditation, competencies, standards, skills, and disciplines as hallmarks of a recognized and respected Profession. Our breakout sessions will invite all participants to enhance and expand our knowledge on the subject of the needs of the IT Professional, and the problems we all face in claiming IT Professional status, as practitioners, academics, managers, executives, programmers, etc., to see how far we can take the effort forward to unify our profession as never before.
